Today we watched a great documentary on racial discrimination and how Jane Elliot educated her third grade class about how unjust it was to be racist. It was a really great reflection because being an Indian I’ve faced many occassions and it’s really sad sometimes. I guess this is one thing that only changes with a change in mentality, and I don’t really think that racism will ever diminish because those people who make funny racial jokes still exhibit racism whether you believe it or not, unless ofcourse they’re making fun of their own race.

We then moved into our end-of-year project which sounds quite exciting! Gaby and I are going to work together and look at what happens behind the scenes of the cafeteria. It should be really fun and interesting so lets see how it goes!

Today all the page editors did a final check on the pages– I went through the pages and made the minor changes. The pages are ready to go!

We did most of the major changes during layout on Saturday, so this process was fairly quick.

Today I finished cropping the pictures for Gaby, and then I was just helping with the pages in terms of captions, formatting etc.

Ivan and I will be coming on Saturday to “proctor” the layout session since the rest will be taking the SAT!

Today was a laid back day, so I helped Gaby with cropping since she has a lot to crop for her page. I also looked over the 2nd page and made sure it was okay. Lawerence seemed to be fine and his page looked good so it’s really great that they’ve all got the hang of it now!

Today I had to make some changes to my ISM article, because I was missing one piece. I decided to modify it slightly and work around it so hopefully it’s fine now!

I was also talking to Josephine about the TAIMUN article, since she was having a few issues with getting to the word count. I’m sure she’s going to make it though.

I also finished quote verifications and submitted them as well!

We went to watch some badminton in the beginning of the class, and then I worked on making the final changes on the DT drafts. I’m really glad that they’re finally done and we’re ready to layout!

Today the three DT-ers met again, I helped Katchy and Jackie with their drafts, and hopefully that helped. I’m excited to see how it turns out! Today we turn in third drafts today to Roz, and we’ll be laying out tomorrow!

TODAY IS FRIDAY! :D

Today I continued working on the IASAS drafts and I felt that I needed a bit more input so I’ve emailed a few people and luckily they’re editors of their own publications so I can expect a quicker reply.

Towards the second half of class, Katchy, Jackie and I went to the conference room and we just had a discussion about how our articles were going, what we should add and we talked about the DT layout as well. We’ve come up with an idea which I think should work, I’m getting a little nervous about the spacing because we have six articles. Anyhow, we can always cut when it comes to lay out so it should be okay :)

Over the weekend, I got my interviews for both, ISM and JIS which was GREAT! I worked on the ISM article over the weekend, and I completed my JIS draft during class. I’m quite excited to see how this page will turn out to look like.

I have to admit though, that it was quite hard writing the articles since there are some things that are quite similar, yet you want the school to have it’s unique aspects to stand out. This was a bit hard for me, but I think I’ve done a fairly good job going around that, so I hope it’s okay!

For next class, Jackie, Katchy and I are going to meet up and compare our drafts so that we can make sure that we’re covering similar topics and whether the articles have a connection.

Today Julia gave us our checked drafts for the April Fool’s issue and I had to make quite a few changes because some of the pictures looked stretched and pixilated. I guess sometimes what happens is that when you make the picture too small, it pixilates and then you have to replace again.

The soundcheck was fine, but Julia and I felt that the text was hard to see, so we put a transparent box behind it so the white text was more visible.
